Candidate for Murray Valley, Tim McCurdy and The Nationals Jeanette Powell visit Murray Valley PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 20 July 2010

The Nationals candidate for Murray Valley, Tim McCurdy and Jeanette Powell Shadow Minister for Local Government and Shadow Minister for Aboriginal Affairs will visit Beechworth and Wangaratta, tomorrow, Wednesday, July 21 2010.

Mr McCurdy and Mrs Powell will meet with Indigo Shire Council in the morning then travel to Wangaratta to meet with locals and Mr Graham Nickless at Wangaratta Unlimited.

Mrs Powell said the meeting with Indigo Shire is important as it was recently named in the ‘Whelan Report’ as one of 18 small rural councils that face significant challenges.

“The Nationals understand the challenges faced by rural councils with a small rate base and are keen to hear of Indigo Shire’s specific issues.”

Mr McCurdy said “Listening to the concerns of local residents is my highest priority, and I will fight to ensure that the people of Murray Valley get a strong local voice in the State Parliament.

“The Nationals have placed their trust in me as their candidate and I will work very hard to ensure Murray Valley has the best possible representative in the State Parliament.

“Today is about listening to and talking with local people to understand their needs.”

“The Nationals have a proven track record of standing up for regional Victoria, and I look forward to continuing that track record in Murray Valley.”

Mr McCurdy said the Murray Valley electorate is an important region in Victoria and will benefit from the $1 billion Regional Growth Fund announced at The Nationals State Conference held in Wangaratta in May.

Mrs Powell said “Tim McCurdy is an outstanding candidate for The Nationals and will make a tremendous Member for Murray Valley.”
